Taser Gun

In this project we are going to build a powerful taser gun taser Gun using a 555 timer. We all are familiar with the importance of a 555 timer IC in the field of Electronics since it has wide variety of application. And today we are going to use this invincible IC to make a taser gun.

Caution: This project must be built for demonstration and for high voltage applications purposes only. It is very dangerous since it can produce voltage up to 30 kV. So never use it on any living creature.

WHAT IS A TASER GUN?

Taser gun is a high voltage device which can produce thousands of volts across its terminal to give electric shocks. Its terminal is two pin-point metals across which high voltage is generated since lesser area means more voltage due to cornea effect. To produce high voltage, only best option available is a transformer because no other device is capable of producing this much high voltage from a low voltage source.

COMPONENTS:

Components required for this project are:-

  1. 555 TIMER IC
  2. STANDARD 12V TRANSFORMER
  3. MOSFET IRF1010E
  4. TWO CAPACITORS OF .1 uF
  5. 1N4007 DIODE
  6. A PUSH-BUTTON
  7. TWO 1k RESISTOR
  8. ONE 47k RESISTOR
  9. ONE 10 uF CERAMIC CAPACITOR(  you can use 10*1uf capacitor in series)
  10. 9v battery

CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:

**Don't forget to connect 10 uF capacitor in parallel to the primary of transformer i.e. 12 volt side as its function is most important (explained below).

**connect two pins (thin) to secondary terminals.

HOW THIS CIRCUIT IS DIFFERENT?

The difference between this circuit and the circuit which you will find in any other website is that you don’t need any audio transformer to build this one as finding an audio transformer is difficult task. But simple transformers like this are easily available as they have application in every field of life.

WHY 555 TIMER I.C?

555 timers is use to convert the steady 9 volt into high frequency pulses. Which drives a high power MOSFET to initiate voltage fluctuations in the primary side of transformer. As we know that generation of voltage happen on the secondary side of the transformer only when primary voltage fluctuates.

WHY CAPACITOR IN PARALLEL TO PRIMARY of Transformer?

Capacitor is used in parallel to the primary of transformer so that lC oscillations could take place between this capacitor and inductor (primary coil). In this way high voltage oscillating waveform are produce on primary which produce thousands of voltage on secondary.

WORKING:

CASE 1. When button is pressed:

As soon as push button is pressed, 555 timer sends high frequency pulses to the base of mosfet which causes its high switching and thus the 10 microfarad capacitor charges maximum due to heavy fluctuations.

CASE2. When button is released:

As soon as push button is released the capacitor and inductor makes a closed circuit. thus capacitor discharges and inductor starts charging and when capacitor get discharge completely then inductor starts flowing current in the circuit hence charging the capacitor again. This process keeps on going until oscillations stop due to losses in the circuit.

Since these lC oscillations causes huge voltage fluctuations in the primary of transformer, voltage fluctuations on secondary are far more due to transformer action and thus we get thousands of volts on secondary, high enough to zap a living creature.
